Is this the all new YZF-R7 – track weapon and street nemesis?

2020 was the last production year for not just the YZF-R6, but also the VMAX, WR250 and the SMAX scooter. With a gaping hole left in the middleweight sportsbike lineup post the R6 discontinuation, rumours have been aplenty of what is next to come from Team Yamaha.

Rumours are rife that Yamaha will plonk the MT-07 engine into a as-yet-unconfirmed YZF-R7 ensuring the motorcycle meets the Euro 5 emission norms.

Cut to march 2021, Yamaha listed two unseen model names in its 2022 California Air Resource Board filings – YZFR7NCB and YZFR7NCL. These could materialise into the YZF-R7 production model.

05 May 2021, Yamaha Motor Europe uploaded a 28-second teaser on its YouTube channel which hints strongly at the existence of a modern tarmac-scorching YZF-R7. The video is titled, “Track. Street. R/World.” and captioned, “R/World is coming your way with something new. Soon. #RWorld​”.

The video montage consists of a rider POV video of an unspecified motorcycle unleashed by the rider on a racetrack with a sweet symphony in the background score. The ending of the video replaces the music score for a smooth-revving parallel twin cacophony which is very reminiscent of the MT-07.

Husqvarna Vektorr and Bltz E-mobility concepts unveiled

Husqvarna Motorcycles is entering the electric powered-two wheeler (PTW) mobility space with a slew of offerings. Motorad Gears had covered the E-Pilen prototype launch – an electric motorcycle. Now, they have showcased the Vektorr and Bltz concepts, further expanding their zero-emissions product range.

Husqvarna Motorcycles is going forward into the future with a zero-emissions product range to broaden the brand’s appeal to existing riders as well as a whole new audience.

It has always been the aim of Husqvarna Motorcycles to develop new products accessible to the broadest possible spectrum of riders. The E-mobility range will retain and continue the riding pleasure and dynamics refined through the long history and experience of the brand.

The current Husqvarna Motorcycles street range is already known for being progressive, smart, dynamic and purely design oriented. These values will continue to be hallmarks of the E-mobility line.


Husqvarna Motorcycles reveals the Vektorr Concept. It offers a tantalising vision of what Husqvarna Motorcycles’ move into electric urban mobility will look like.

The Vektorr Concept is the first electric scooter ever produced by Husqvarna Motorcycles and is aimed squarely at the urban commuter who demands a compact, stylish and effective personal transport solution to fit their busy lifestyle. Styled and ridden like a conventional scooter, the Vektorr Concept will deliver a top speed of 45 km/h and offer a range of up to 95 km.

The Vektorr Concept is an eco-friendly model that brings the future of personal urban transport into the present.


Furthermore, Husqvarna Motorcycles unveils the Bltz Concept. It makes convenient, clean travel easy with a stand-up scooter. The rider stands on the Bltz Concept, which offers rapid transit from A to B in busy city environments in a noise and emissions-free package.

The Bltz Concept will offer a range of 40 km and with the power output of 0.5 kW it will deliver a top speed of 20 km/h.

Development of the E-Mobility range is well-advanced and reflects the forward-thinking innovation that has seen Husqvarna Motorcycles set benchmarks for quality, aesthetics and performance for more than a century.

The expansion into E-Mobility is also reflected in an expanded dealer network. Husqvarna Motorcycles is actively searching for qualified dealers in large metropolitan areas in Europe, focusing on Spain, France, Italy and Germany.


These models are the first in a series based on a common 48 Volt electric two-wheeler platform in the power range 4 to 11 kW for planned serial production in India. KTM E-Technologies GmbH provides in-house E-mobility expertise at the highest level including the development of proprietary electric drive systems & battery platforms.

Pierer Mobility has its eyes set on the lucrative EUR 10 bn addressable premium market in Europe for the electric two-wheeler segment by 2025.

Zongshen had entered into a partnership with Norton in 2017 which allowed them rights to the 650 cc twin-cylinder platform. This is the first model to come out of this partnership.

Hero MotoCorp launches Virtual Showroom for Digital Sales

Hero MotoCorp launched a virtual showroom feature to enter the digital sales arena. The virtual showroom will provide a seamless digital purchase experience to the customers who are presently unable to visit a dealership owing to the ongoing pandemic.

Hero MotoCorp states that the new virtual showrooms promise to ‘discover, engage and purchase’ the company’s bikes and scooter by providing a fully digital experience. It will offer a complete 360-degree view of the space as well as the product. It will also allow a user to browse and explore the complete technical details of each and every Hero model from the comfort of their home.

Commenting on the initiative, Naveen Chauhan, Head – Sales and Aftersales, Hero MotoCorp, said, “At Hero MotoCorp we are constantly striving to enhance our customer buying experience. Considering the need for social distancing and catering to the digitally savvy customers, it is imperative for our services to be present at the customers’ fingertips while providing a holistic experience right from the beginning of their purchase journey. This feature is in line with our commitment to build value-led initiatives. Soon after launching our messaging app based chatbot services, we are now bringing a Hero showroom straight to the customer’s room.”

As per the company, the new feature allows the customer to request a callback and enquire about the vehicle of the choice. Simultaneously, the option of direct purchase is also available.

Using the Hero MotoCorp’s 3D Product Configurator,  accessible via the official website, customers can get a firsthand digital view of all the trim options and variants available for each model. It also displays a 360-degree CGI view of the motorcycle, the available trim options, colors, and even the backdrop can be customized. Additionally, the 3D configurator offers an augmented reality feature which is compatible on all iOS and Android devices.

Suzuki Gixxer 250, Gixxer SF 250 recalled in India

Suzuki Motorcycles India has issued a product recall for select units of the Gixxer 250 and Gixxer 250 SF due to an engine vibration issue. This is a voluntary recall and only affects 199 units of the quarter-litre models which were manufactured between 12 August 2019 and 21 March 2021.

Per the notice posted on the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) website, the affected models may suffer from an increased engine vibration due to incorrect positioning of the balancer drive gear.

The template for marking the matching positions was not used by a supervisor, thus causing the issue. The vibrations may damage two of the six tail lamp mounting lugs, although it is highly unlikely to affect the function of the brake light. Suzuki Motorcycles India will fix the affected models free of cost, and the repairs could take a maximum duration of two to three hours.

2022 CFMoto 800MT Adventure showcased at Auto Shanghai

Adventure motorcycles are all the rage right now, offering an unmatched concoction of practicality, ruggedness and versatility to traverse any terrain.

The latest middle-weight adventure motorcycle comes to you from China thanks to KTM’s 11 year old strategic cooperation agreement signed with CFMoto. The JV allows CFMoto access to the 790/890 LC8c compact twin-cylinder engine platform while KTM stands to benefit from the manufacturing prowess of CFMoto.

There has been a massive increase in cooperation level. CFMoto is developing a trio of 750 cc motorcycles based on the tried and tested 790 LC8c motor – 750 Duke, 750 Adventure and 750 Supermoto T. These models will form a new product range for KTM and help acquire newer riders. All the 750 models will be earmarked for the Chinese domestic and global markets.

The 800MT is unlike any KTM adventure motorcycle we have seen though. It has been designed by Kiska Design, who have been the industrial designers for KTM and Husqvarna. The 800MT has a very Africa Twin-esque design ergos versus a large enduro of the KTM 790 Adventure. It ditches the split fuel tank design for a conventional one.

The 800MT will be a flagship motorcycle for CFMoto. The motor delivers 94 hp of peak power and 77 Nm of peak torque vs 95 bhp and 88 Nm on the erstwhile 790 Adventure. It comes loaded with Bosch cornering ABS, traction control and luxuries such as keyless ignition, built-in GPS, heated grips and seat and, KTM’s rich electronic suite, easily accessed on a 7-inch TFT screen.

In order to keep the price low, suspension is KYB vs WP on the 790 Adventure, while the brakes are J Juan. The 800MT sports a steel perimeter frame with an aluminium swingarm.

The 800MT will weigh in at 231 kg sans any luggage option or 248 kgs with the aluminium side cases, top box and mounting system. The seat height is 825 mm and comes with 19-inch front/17-inch rear cast wheels, with spokes as an upgrade option. Other accessories are skid plate and crash bars.

As the motorcycle is slated for launch in Q2 2021, we can expect to see the 800MT production models hitting showrooms in the next couple of months. Pricing is expected to be in the range of 7,700 USD to 10,700 USD or between Rs 5.70 lakhs to Rs 7.92 lakhs.

2021 Suzuki Hayabusa is already sold out in India

The MY2021 Suzuki Hayabusa was launched in India on 26 April, and the first lot has already been sold out in two days.

All 101 units from the first batch marked for India are now accounted for. The buyers of the first batch also received a complimentary rear seat cowl. The second batch is likely to arrive in the country soon, although the pandemic might play spoilsport.

The new model was launched at a price point of Rs 16.40 lakh (ex-showroom, India), thereby making it about Rs 2.65 lakh more expensive than the erstwhile model. For the price differential, you get a host of uprated cycleparts such as full-LED lighting, an LCD screen, and a revised design.

The 1340 cc inline-four engine has been retained, albeit with upgrades to meet the newer and stringent emission norms. Linked to a six-speed cassette-type transmission, the motor now belches out 187.7 bhp of peak power and 150 Nm of peak torque.

It competes with the Kawasaki Ninja 1000 SX in the Indian market.

Revolt to expand to 35 cities and South Asia with 150 crores investment

Revolt Intellicorp has secured Rs. 150 crore as a fresh round of investment from Rattan India Enterprises. The brand aims to expand to 35 cities in India and other South Asian geographies.

As part of the inked deal, Rattan India Enterprises will hold an equity share in Revolt and Rajiv Rattan will join as non-executive chairman of the board of the company. Revolt Intellicorp says its electric motorcycles have clocked over 18 million kilometres on road and processed 329 million data records till date.

Rahul Sharma, founder, Revolt Intellicorp said, “At Revolt Intellicorp, we are determined at providing better and safer e-mobility solutions to our customers. Despite challenges brought by the pandemic, Revolt Motors has emerged as a global powerhouse expanding its footprint to 6 cities across India. Our partnership with RattanIndia Enterprises complements our vision to offer eco-friendly transportation solutions as well as expand our reach to a larger base of customers across top 35 Indian cities.”

Revolt will harness the capital infusion to expand the existing distributor and service network across India to 35 cities. Further, the EV maker will leverage AI to upscale and provide a 100 per cent in-house developed, contactless experience for all customers.
